Natural Fibre Felts
From jute to wool, cotton to bamboo, we work with the best of nature to create felts that are absorbent, durable, and kinder to the planet. Whether it’s the strength of hemp, the softness of silk, or the warmth of wool, each fibre brings something unique.
Jute/Hemp/ Flax: are coarse natural plant fibres from plants that are used to give durability.
Silk: A natural fibre – Silk is made primarily of a protein called fibroin and is known for its shine and softness as a material.
Wool: Wool is a textile from the hair of sheep, goats, alpacas, llamas, and other animals. Different wool fibres include Cashmere, Angora, Mohair and more. Wool is a very warm, absorbent, and durable fibre. It is water-resistant, thanks to the lanolin oils from the animals.
Cotton: Cotton is primarily composed of cellulose, an insoluble organic compound crucial to plant structure, and is a soft and fluffy material. Cotton fibre is soft and durable.
Bamboo: A natural fibre made from the pulp of bamboo plants. It is also called regenerated cellulose fibre. Bamboo fibre is known for its softness, durability, and moisture-wicking properties, and is becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional textiles.
With our ability to blend a variety of fibres we can offer a multitude of Felts and waddings. With weights ranging from 200g/m2 to over 1000g/m2 and felting options of either needled or layered we can provide felt solutions for many industries and applications.
The Advantages of Natural Fibres
- Absorbent. Natural fibres have an incredibly high absorbency, as the fibres, both plant and animal, have a strong affinity with water.
- Eco-friendly. Natural fibres usually have a smaller environmental impact than synthetic fibres because natural fibres do not use as many or any chemicals during the production process.
- Durable. Due to the structure of cellulose, which makes up natural materials, most plant-based fibres are very strong.
