Interleaving, Wrapping and Die-Cut Inserts

Felt protective packaging takes several practical forms depending on the product and the packaging design:

Interleaving sheets are placed between stacked or nested items — plates, glass panes, tiles, metal pressings — to prevent surface-to-surface contact and the scratching or chipping that results. Cut to the footprint of the product, interleaving felt requires no special tooling and can be reused repeatedly by the end customer before disposal.

Wrapping felt encases individual items before they are boxed, providing all-round cushioning and surface protection. The natural grip of felt fibres helps the wrap stay in place without adhesives or tape, simplifying both packing and unpacking. For premium consumer goods, a felt wrap also carries an immediate quality signal at the moment of unboxing — an increasingly valued part of the customer experience.

Die-cut inserts are precision-cut to create recesses or profiles that hold a product securely in a fixed position within a box. Where foam inserts are the conventional solution, felt offers a more sustainable alternative with comparable protective performance and a more considered aesthetic, particularly for products sold into premium retail or gifting markets.

Replacing Single-Use Plastic in Transit Packaging

The pressure on brands and manufacturers to reduce single-use plastic in their packaging is coming from multiple directions simultaneously — legislative, retail customer requirements and consumer expectation. Bubble wrap, foam sheets and polystyrene void-fill are functional but increasingly difficult to justify when alternatives exist.
